Courses of Instruction
Whether you are a beginner, a novice or an experienced sailor, we can offer you a curriculum that will improve your skills and understanding of the sport. If your particular needs don’t exactly fit within the standard curriculum, we will tailor a course of instruction to fit your needs.
Our goal for every student is to develop their competence, which leads to safety, confidence, and enjoyment. We are located near the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London Connecticut at Hellier Yacht Sales.
You're guaranteed to learn more through onboard experience and private lessons of no more than 4 students per class. Classes move progressively out of the beautiful and historic Thames River to Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean as the curriculum raises you to higher levels of skill and confidence.
Captain Roger is a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Northeastern University and owns the American Sailing Academy. He obtained his Captains License from the U.S. Coast Guard and is a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. His 25 years of coastal sailing has been along the Atlantic as far as the Keys in Florida. Roger is a certified sailing instructor and has taught for 8 years. Like you he began his sailing experiences from enrolling in sailing lessons.
Courses are taught from May 1st through September 30th, 7 days a week
