Vertical Batten Mainsails now Available
Standard on all new Island Packets and optional on the Catalina line, both manufacturers are now offering Vertical Batten systems with their in-mast furling mainsails.
Offering an unbeatable combination of practicality and performance, a Vertical Batten Mainsail System can add up to 20% additional sail area over an ordinary in-mast furling sail.
The battens eliminate the hollow in the leach, stop any flapping, and provide a normal roach profile restoring balance to the rig. By stabilizing the leach, the fullness of the sail is better controlled and the sail works much more efficiently. Furling is also improved. Since the battens also serve as reefing points, they help flatten the sail when it is reefed down.
These new batten systems work so well, the only time you're likely to notice them is when you're passing other boats without them!
Our display model Catalina 42 MkII as well as our in-stock Island Packet 370 and the new Island Packet 465 all feature the new Vertical Batten mainsails. Check them out at the Fall Boat Shows or stop by our office for a personal inspection and demonstration.
