THIS VESSEL IS ON ORDER Catalina Yachts has just introduced the launch of its all-new Catalina 445, with styling, proportions and features that make Catalinas comfortable and secure underway and on the hook. It is based on a new hull design with a long waterline and moderate beam and freeboard.
The Catalina 445 incorporates the newest technology and unique, flexible creature comforts. The hull form is optimized for gentle, predictable motion underway.
"We paid great attention to ergonomics and function, yet added stunning, chiseled styling," said Gerry Douglas, vice-president and chief engineer for Catalina. "This yacht breaks with tradition aesthetically, but has all the functional aspects and proportions that make Catalinas successful," he said.
The deck is finished with traditional diamond-patterned non-skid. Catalina takes a modern and slightly daring direction with a low-profile cabin structure, twin helm stations and a roomy cockpit with tall, secure coamings. The cockpit table has insulated storage, handrails, engine panel and rotating housing for the chart plotter. It seats 4-6.
Powerful multi-speed self-tailing primary winches are situated well aft for operation by the helmsman. The traveler, designed specifically for the 445, has a low profile with both traveler controls conveniently led to the port side. Extra long genoa tracks accommodate headsails from a powerful 155% genoa to a storm jib. The mast is stepped on the compression post top plate, which eliminates the noise and water intrusion of a keel stepped mast. An asymmetrical spinnaker is optimized by a removable bowsprit. The anchor roller assembly integrates the sprit attachment for strength.
The galley is optimized for convenience at sea. Special attention is given to a storage pantry and lockers for provisions and cookware. In the saloon, the dining table to port folds to cocktail size and raises for dining. It lowers to form an extra double berth. A starboard dinette table lowers to form a berth or settee, and two starboard side seats are deep and contoured. A forward facing chart table can accommodate a laptop.
The owner's cabin is forward for privacy and natural ventilation; the VIP guest cabin is aft, with a large double easy-access berth, increased headroom and ventilation.
The aft cabin to port is a flexible space, easily modified without tools, to whatever the owner's cruising style dictates at the time. Convert the cabin to upper/lower bunks or double sleeping quarters. Create a useful storage locker that is accessible from the cockpit, or make it a workroom with a bench. The space can be re-configured, with little effort, at any time.
The interior is constructed of teak and teak veneers, hand-finished with clear varnishes.
All systems are aligned with the recommendations and standards of the ABYC and IMCI. The Catalina 445 will debut at the Strictly SailĀ® Pacific Boat Show in Oakland, CA, on April 15-19, 2009.
Catalina?s philosophy is straightforward: Design boats that stand up to real world conditions and sail well. They must be comfortable above and below, easy to maintain and hold their value. A commitment to owner satisfaction has enhanced customer confidence and loyalty, so that Catalina has become the most prominent builder of sailboats in the United States
