As the first cold weather of Winter descends on Connecticut, work is progressing at a heated pace in the Hellier hi-bay where two classic wooden yachts are undergoing restoration by Skip Rowe Yacht Services of Mystic.
The first, CARA MIA, is a 1905 New York Yacht Club 30, one of the most famous designs of legendary yacht designer N. G. Herreshoff. Thoroughbred racing machines with a LOA of 48' and a beam under 9', the NYYC 30 class was one of the best loved and most competitive of the era.
Second, a 1929 Hacker Craft runabout from the golden age of mahogany speedsters is perhaps one of the most original of her type still in existence. Also undergoing a complete refinish, she will soon be re-powered by a vintage Scripps inboard.
If you are near Hellier this Winter please take the time to visit and view these remarkable craft.
